Simple Steps to Activate Chakras in Your Body

7 Body Chakras

Chakras are energy centers inside the human body that keep us physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally in balance. In Sanskrit, “chakra” means “wheel,” generally indicating centers starting from your spine up to the top of your head. There are seven major chakras with a different function in our overall health. It can help a person feel better and more focused by activating and balancing these chakras. In this article, we are going to consider some simple steps to activate the chakras.

What Are Chakras?

Chakras are the energy centers found in the human body. Each of the seven chakras corresponds to different colors, emotions, and parts of the body. If these chakras get blocked or imbalanced, you will experience physical and emotional issues. Balance brings health and happiness. Therefore, we must balance these chakras efficiently in our bodies.

There are a total of seven primary energy centers called chakras in the human body, extending from the head to the toe. These Chakras carry subtle energy to the different functions of the human body, mind, and intellect.

The 7 Body Chakras

1. The Root Chakra (Muladhara): It is located at the base of your spine. It represents stability and security.

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana): It is located right below the navel. It’s associated with creativity and emotions.

3. The Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): It is located in the upper abdomen. It refers to individual power and confidence.

4. The Heart Chakra (Anahata): It is located in the center of your chest. It relates to love and compassion.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): it is situated in the throat. It affects both communication and how we express ourselves.

6. The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): It is located between the eyebrows. It is about intuition and insight.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): It is located on the top of the head. It represents spiritual connection and knowledge.

Why do we activate the chakras?

Each of the seven chakras is located along the spine. When the energy centers are inactive, we experience negative feelings.

The seven chakras can be activated to increase happiness and open up new possibilities in life. It is important to activate each chakra to promote happiness because they may all cause pleasant and negative emotions.

How to Activate Chakras in the Human Body?

You can activate and balance your chakras through yoga poses, hand gestures called mudras, chanting mantras, and meditation. Here’s how:

Yoga Poses For Each Chakra

1. For Root Chakra – Vrikshasana (Tree Pose):

Makes you feel more alert, secure, and balanced. The root chakra controls your sense of survival, belonging, groundedness, and guardedness. It holds your earliest memories of whether or not your basic needs—physical and emotional—have been met. You may act needy, with low self-esteem or self-destruction, when blocked or out of balance. It can also be difficult to access openness in all 7 chakras when this foundational one is blocked.

2. For Sacral Chakra – Malasana (Garland Pose):

This chakra corresponds with your sexual or reproductive organs and represents fluidity, creativity, and fertility. You can take that literally or look into whether you feel worthy to have a pleasurable, abundant, creative existence that flows with life rather than trying to make things happen. If your sacral chakra is out of balance, you can become too emotional, guilty, or hard on yourself. When in balance, you may be feeling creative, positive, and open to change—like the ocean and its tides, you’re flowing.

3. For Solar Plexus Chakra – Paripurna Navasana (Boat Pose)

When Manipura is balanced, you have self-esteem and confidence to do what needs to be done about it, to be productive. You feel alive. If blocked, you have no courage, low self-esteem, and feel stagnant and inert. This chakra’s opening will let people awaken and realize their real, true personal power inside them. It will let you work through your fear of risk and, therefore, support the working of all 7 chakras.

4. For Heart Chakra – Ustrasana (Camel Pose)

If you have a blocked heart chakra, possessiveness, and co-dependency become part of your nature; and you may find yourself in toxic relationships. Otherwise, you might stay isolated for the very reason—fear of rejection. Open up your heart chakra, and you will once again open up to new experiences.

5.  For Throat Chakra – Salamba Sarvangasana (Supported Shoulder Stand)

You may feel that you can’t speak your truth when this chakra is blocked. You may also speak excessively and not listen to others. When this chakra is open and activated, your voice moves through space to help you communicate your feelings in healthy ways. You also become better at listening to others and respecting their opinions without judgment.

6. For Third Eye Chakra – Sukhasana (Easy Pose)

This chakra allows you to learn new things and to trust your instincts. It is related to your intuition or the sixth sense, and it manages the functioning of all the 7 chakras. If it works well, you will have insight and can rely on your inner wisdom to overcome life’s challenges and choices. Working on the sixth chakra will help keep your mind open to the bigger picture, and to alternative perspectives, and help you receive wisdom that cannot be seen or heard by ordinary senses.

7. For Crown Chakra – Savasana (Corpse Pose)

The crown chakra is the last and most uppermost of the 7 chakras and connects you to the spiritual realm. It helps you realize that you are much more than the body and you are a spiritual being having a human experience. Not located in the body, it’s something floating above the crown of your head. If it is closed you believe that happiness can only appear from outside and you suffer. Working on this chakra makes you feel free in any situation.

Mudras to Activate Chakras

1. Sacral Chakra (Svadhishthana)

– First, sit comfortably and put your right palm over your left palm in your lap. Touch your thumbs. Focus on the area below your navel and take deep breaths.

2. Root chakra (Muladhara)

Mantras to Activate Chakras

Mantras are sounds or phrases that might help to balance your chakras. Chant them in your natural voice, without caring about pitch. Regular chanting improves the energy of each chakra.
